BIG is an initiative under iDEA project that aims to build a Startup Ecosystem in the country and plans to provide a grant to 100 Startups to encourage new innovative ideas from Young Entrepreneurs. The iDEA project, from March 16, 2020 to November 2020 has approved grants of Tk.10 lakh to each of the 32 startups through the project selection committee.

We aim to cross borders and reach the International ICT Community alongside Local Startups. Foreign startups will be able to participate through an international roadshow. Through “BIG” young entrepreneurs i.e. new innovative ideas of startups will be encouraged to build a startup ecosystem in the country and establish this event as a flagship program at the international level.

There will be 3 main focus in 2020 and 2021 for BIG including - University and Stakeholder Activation Campaign, a TV reality show and an International road show. Bangladesh's Public-private educational institutions, inventors, professionals, startups institutions, High-commissions and embassies of different countries along with startups from hundreds of different local and foreign communities and clubs and trade associations delegates will be taking part in this event.

This initiative will be organized by the Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship Academy (iDEA) project along with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), A2I, Startup Bangladesh Limited who have been added as an event partner. As private partners, we will also have different trades associations including BASIS, BACCO, BCS, ECAB, ISPAB and BIJF.

Last but not least, through this event Bangladesh will be re-presented as a prosperous and aspiring country in the world stage of ICT.


The activation campaign is the first phase of the Bangabandhu Innovation Grant (BIG). University and Stakeholder activation program will be organized in each division of Bangladesh through Online and offline program. This Divisional campaign for BIG will start from around 29th November 2020 and will continue gradually at Barishal, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Chattagram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Dhaka. A daylong event will be held to let the participants know about the opportunities of BIG. Any student, non-student, or individual who has an ICT-based innovative idea, product or, service can apply for BIG. From the applications, 65 startups will be selected from all over Bangladesh through a primary selection for a 4 Day-long boot camp. In boot camp, selected startups will be provided training and mentoring. In the next round, A TV Reality Show will be held with the top 65 Startups.



Encouraged to solve various real-life problems by using innovation and technology, "Bangabandhu Innovation Grant 2021" will showcase the talent and creativity of National inventors and entrepreneurs. With the top 65 start-ups from the boot camp the “TV Reality Show” will air. This will be a final component initiated by iDEA project. There will be total 13 episodes aired. In each episode 5 start-ups will compete with one another from which top 2 start-ups will be selected, i.e. in total 26 start-ups will be selected to be honored with TK.10 lakh “Grant” from iDEA Project. These top 26 National Start-ups will be in the final round of BIG. It is to be mentioned that the name of the TV Chanel and the time of the reality show will be posted on the official website of BIG.


To showcase the innovations and invented products of the start-ups of Bangladesh and to promote “Made in Bangladesh” in the world market with other Start-ups of Bangladesh and help build a connection with them, adopt their culture and be a part of the International Start-up Ecosystem, International Road Show of BIG will play a crucial part.

An experienced panel of Judges will select the top 10 Start-ups from all the Start-ups that signed up. These 10 startups will get direct access to the Gala round and will be honoured TK.10 lakh “Grant” from iDEA Project. The roadshow will be conducted in USA, Cambodia, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy etc.



National Category

  • Anyone who is a Bangladeshi Citizen will be able to apply in the national category.
  • Bangladeshi Citizens who are residing in foreign country but are not a citizen of that country will be able to apply in the national category.
  • Anyone who either has a startup idea or has a business that is still in the Startup stage will be able to compete in the national category.
  • This category will accommodate both student and non-student participants.

International Category

  • Anyone who has a foreign passport will be able to apply in the international category.
  • Anyone who either has a Startup idea or has a business that is still in the Startup stage will be able to compete in the international category.
  • This category will accommodate both student and Non student participants.

Applications received online will be conducted by the Primary Selection Committee and Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship Academy(iDEA). Proposals received will be initially selected for grants based on (but not limited to) the following criteria-

  • Feasibility
  • Methodology (Business, Technology, Finance)
  • Business planning
  • Business strategy
  • Management Team
